Cincinnati Bengals co-star receiver Chris Henry, who has had troubles in the pass with the law, has passed away after suffering a fatal head injury. The police report states that Chris and his fiancée, Loleini Tonga, were having a domestic dispute. When Tonga tried to leave in her pickup truck, Chris apparently jumps into the pickup’s bed, continued arguing, while Loleini continued driving. Chris eventually fell out the bed and landed on his head causing his eventual death at 6.36 am This Thursday morning. This makes me think… Life’s too short! why can’t we just all get along and enjoy life, even with millions of dollars in the bank, some folks can’t find happiness, now I don’t know what the argument was about but that not the point here, I’m just loosed for words when avoidable incidents happen.

Chris Henri… Rest in Peace!

Today was the official Grey Cup winning team’s parade right here in Montreal. Yes, the Alouettes became the second, Montreal based, Professional sports team to win their respective leagues championship. Many of you may wonder why I haven’t talk about The Alouettes at all this season even with Football being my favourite sport, my answer to that is… If you follow the CFL at all you’ll know that practically every year since like 2000, if not even before, actually almost every year since the team came back in the league in 96, they have been at the top of the league’s regular season standings; but has failed several times to actually win the championship. The team’s last grey cup win was in 02 but up until this past November 29th 2009 the team had lost in 4 Grey cup appearances (03, 05, 06, 08) gaining comparisons to the Buffalo Bills (NFL) who lost the Super Bowl in 4 straight years. With last years devastating lost right here in Montreal to the Calgary Stampeters in the Grey cup, I promised myself that I would not speak of the Alouettes until they WON a grey cup. (all while following their every step) It’s as if, every year, they had an outstanding regular season record (this year being 15 wins and 3 losses) but “choked” at the end, I felt like I was jinxing them by always putting them to win the Grey Cup and maybe, just maybe by not talking about them they’d win… well looks like I was right, therefore it’s because of me they won this year!! I joke, I joke.

With all that being said I could now talk about the Grey Cup win… Once the game started, I was feeling very nervous and rightfully so, the team started off the game exactly like every other Grey cup loss, falling behind early and not playing to their potential… Loosing 20 to 10 entering the 4th and final quarter, then being behind 27 to 10 it looked like it was all over, but the team’s leaders finally woke up and took over. With 10 seconds left to the game we were behind 27 to 25 and needed a few completions to get into field goal range, Calvillo, playing a brilliant 4th quarter, did what he needed to do and brought his team into Damon Duval’s field goal range. With only time for a kick to secure a well awaited Grey Cup win, Duval’s kick swirled wide right and Saskatchewan celebrated an “at the moment” win. But WAIT… there’s a flag on the field, THER A FLAG ON THE FIELD. The Roughriders are called for too many men on the field, we get a second chance to redeem ourselves and ACTUALLY kick the winning field goal. It’s good, IT’S GOOD!! WE WIN!! WE WIN!!

Notice the caps?!

That’s how I felt when the Alouettes won that game. Now, many may say that they would have preferred to see the Als win by a big margin like they had in the regular season but to me, I appreciated their comeback 1000% more, it showed me how resilient the team is and how never NEVER to give up. I give credit to the WHOLE team for fighting off the temptation to abandon their hopes of winning, trust me it’s not an easy thing to accomplish; only a solid and well coached team can do.

So with the Monkey finally off Calvillo’s back and him stating a comeback next season lest espier to another championship in 2010!!

what a game!!

Sidebar: just 2 more things about the Als,

1: I’d like to personally congratulate Danny Desriveaux, Shawn Mayne and Luc Jourdain-Brodeur, 3 personal friends of mine, guys whom I played with, went to school with and also played against, 3 guys who are role models and whom I’m very proud of, I’d also like to congratulate Étienne Boulay whom I’m not as close with but know through a friend of mine… Étienne THANK YOU for that fumble recovery!!!!!!

2: Ant his is not only towards the Als but, what’s up with everyone doing their Victory Parade in the middle of the week and in the middle of a work day??? Do you guys realize how many people have a day job and can’t make it there? It would be nice for us and also yourselves if you did it on a weekend where even MORE people can come out and celebrate…

Hockey Superstar Dion Phaneuf who is know to be one of the leagues most feared hitters has a little brother, Dane, that is trying to follow in his footsteps… The only problem with that is that Dane caused quite the stir in Edmonton last week when, while playing the Canadian National hockey’s WOMENS team in a non-contact exhibition game, crushed 31 year old veteran Hayley Wickenheiser in the boards. Something that Hayley took exceptions too, she was ready to drop the gloves against “Little Bro” all while trying to choke him out. On a serious note, I’m all for intensity but C’mon Little Bro you can’t hit a girl…

The Montreal Canadiens make some moves…

A few nights ago the Habs shocked their fans by trading their beloved Guillaume Latendresse, even those who have been hating on him are questioning the move. If you look at the trade with and expert’s eye, you can see all the reasons why it was made… The Habs traded Guillaume for the Minnesota Wild’s Benoit Pouliot a player drafted with the 4th pick overall in 05, the same year Latendresse was drafted with the 45th pick by Montreal. Both players have not lived up to the hype but Latendresse has played much Much more games then Benoit because he skipped the minor league process, thus his stat sheet is a little bit better. With all that being said, both these under achievers are up for contracts next season, the only thing is that because of Guillaume’s stat sheet being better he can ask for much more money then Benoit… something The Habs cannot afford. Depict as a VERY slow skater and, to me, sketchy puck handleling skillz, the upside is that Guillaume can resurrect his career elsewhere because here it was going nowhere. As for Benoit, who has yet to prove his worthiness of a 4th overall pick, is a mush more skilled skater and has a lot of upside, let’s just hope that he can also resurrect his career with the Habs… Another good thing is that Guillaume was love in Montreal for many reasons but one of them being that he was a local kid who spoke French, now Benoit is not a local kid (from Saint-Isidore Ontario… 30 minutes away from MTL) s also a French speaking guy therefore the Habs fans will embrace him quickly. Benoit has a chance to go from Zero to Hero in a matter of weeks.

Also…

With Big bro Andrei Kostytin looking like he’s back on track, Little Bro, Bad boy Sergei is back with “Le Grand Club”, after being sent down to the farm team for disciplinary reasons. In last night’s game, he showed why we are still giving him chances, he’s a great player with an attitude problem, let’s hope that Coach Martin can keep him in check because we can certainly use his skillz on the ice…

The NHL AGAIN disappoints me in their inconsistent ways of handle their business… We all have been seeing the vicious hits to the head that have been going on this year most of them going unpunished. It seems like the NHL hand picks players whom receive suspensions and those that don’t. Montreal Canadiens enforcer George Laraque Just receive a 5 game suspension and nearly $39 000 for… a knee to knee hit against Niklas Kronwall of the Detroit Red Wings the other night. Now I’m NOT saying the play was undeserving of a suspension but the NHL just handed him the biggest suspension of the year so far… While other players such as superstar Mike Richards don’t even get a 2 minute penalty for chopping down an opposing player it just seems unfair and useless. If the NHL wants to make an exemplary exhibition of a player they really SHOULD look at a superstar level player that commits a boo boo because only then will other players react…

That’s all I got to say…

Last week, Cleveland Cavaliers Basketball star came out saying that The NFL’s Cleveland Browns team could use his help and that he could step in as a Tight End or Wide Receiver and be a star player for their franchise. Lebron… It’s not that easy and you’re making sooooooo much money as a Bballer, money that you would not even come close to making as a football player. I mean he has the physical attributes to be a football player but football is 50% physical and 50% mental if it were that easy any Joe Blow with his shape would be a star which is not the case… if I was a Cleveland Browner I’d be insulted and it looks like the were because for the first time this season, in a heart crushing loss to the Lions, the receiving squad of the Browns finally had their coming out party. Coach Mangini, who I think is a TERRIBLE coach, said that he would welcome Lebron anytime but Defensive all-star Shaun Rogers quickly stepped up and said that Lebron would not fair well as an NFL player. SMH head to you Lebron, start by winning an NBA championship before talking smack about an entirely different sports team…

I got a request to give my points on what happened in a very important soccer game last week.

I have a friend that played on Canada’s national handball team and he once told me that handball is a very important sport in France. With that being said… has France’s national soccer team’s captain now converted to playing handball?

With France’s hopes of advancing to the world soccer cup on the verge of disappearing, because the winner of the game between France and Ireland would advance and the looser out and the game being tied with minutes left, team captain Thierry Henri received a pass that was going out of bounds, quickly stopping the ball with his hand (an illegal move) dropping it down to serve a perfect kick pass to teammate William Gallas in front of the net, where Gallas put the ball behind the goalie for the winning score. Immediately the Irish goalie pleads his case to the referee who denied seeing the foul play. Many questions came up after this controversial play…

Are there enough referees on field during a soccer game?

I believe that you can’t leave the results of a game in the hands of a referee but having said that, a referee must do his job and can’t miss such a blatant play that crushes a whole countries dream…

The game was played in France, were the refs bought?

Wow that’s a big question… I don’t think the refs were bought and I truly believe that the ref didn’t see the play but obviously France is a much bigger soccer market and the world cup would not be the same without them… nough said…

Should the game be replayed?

Well Fifa already answered that question by denying Ireland request for a rematch but again like I said, France is a much bigger market, back in 05 Brazil’s soccer league replayed 11 games due to finding out that many of their referees were paid to call games. So replaying a soccer game is something that has been done previously but Fifa definitely wants France in the World cup therefore refusing to have a rematch…

Is Thierry Henri a cheater?

Some may call his move cheating and dishonest but I call it genius, it’s a win win situation for him. You see, had he not made that move they would have loss the game and by doing so he had a chance to win, they did so who are we to say he’s a cheater that’s why we have refs. In sports I always say if the ref doesn’t call it, it’s not a foul plus after the game he said he was sorry for what had happened and would gladly replay the game if Fifa see’s fit, not to mention his marvelous acting skillz were he totally acted like the play never happened…

That’s my point… thanks for asking!

What’s yours…

King James a.k.a. Baby Jordan a.k.a. Lebron James is lobbying for the NBA to retire Michael Jordan’s #23 for the entire league. Not only is James ready to start a petition, he is also ready to give up his own jersey #23 to #6, the number he wore on the USA Olympic gold medal squad and in practices since the Olympics. It wouldn’t be the first time this a # would be retired to pay homage to a difference maker in a professional sport’s league. It started with the MLB back in 97 when they retired the ¸late-great Jackie Robinson’s number 42, only players wearing the # at that time were allowed to keep it, only 1 player is left wearing that number and that is the recent World Series Champion Mariano Rivera. The NHL followed suit shortly retiring “The Great One” Wayne Gretzky’s #99 in 2000, is it now time to do so for “His Airness”??? Only 9 Current players, including Lebron himself, would be affected with of course anyone else coming in the league. Out of those 13, you have Lebron who would switch his # to 6 and 3 others that are currently sponsored under the Jordan brand… I would be surprised if they didn’t change their numbers out of respect for their “boss”. How do I feel about that you ask… Well, for starters it would make the league a little more money because, at least in James’ case, fans would have to buy new jerseys as they did for Kobe when he changed his # to 24. To be honest, I agree with the whole thing simply because he was the greatest player ever… not to take anything away from all the other pioneers and star players, Jordan was relevant, is relevant and will ALWAYS be relevant to the game because he is the ONLY player to make himself an everlasting brand. Some people would even want to change the NBA logo that has the silhouette of former NBA player Jerry west since 1971 and switch that silhouette with the Jumpman Logo, but that to me would be a little much and I like the NBA logo as it is.

If the MLB and NHL can do it, the NBA can do it also and the only # I could imagine being retired is… 23

The league has left a statement saying that it would be unlikely that they retire the # for the entire league because, to them, that is a team’s choice and not the league’s choice to do. In that case I would lobby for all teams to individually retire the #. Then, they also said that they have a league policy that states players must wear the same # for at least 5 years (on the same team) before they can change it (as Kobe did), use the Jackie Robinson rule… so anything problems they come up with can be solved!
