Handball…

I got a request to give my points on what happened in a very important soccer game last week.

I have a friend that played on Canada’s national handball team and he once told me that handball is a very important sport in France. With that being said… has France’s national soccer team’s captain now converted to playing handball?

With France’s hopes of advancing to the world soccer cup on the verge of disappearing, because the winner of the game between France and Ireland would advance and the looser out and the game being tied with minutes left, team captain Thierry Henri received a pass that was going out of bounds, quickly stopping the ball with his hand (an illegal move) dropping it down to serve a perfect kick pass to teammate William Gallas in front of the net, where Gallas put the ball behind the goalie for the winning score. Immediately the Irish goalie pleads his case to the referee who denied seeing the foul play. Many questions came up after this controversial play…

Are there enough referees on field during a soccer game?

I believe that you can’t leave the results of a game in the hands of a referee but having said that, a referee must do his job and can’t miss such a blatant play that crushes a whole countries dream…

The game was played in France, were the refs bought?

Wow that’s a big question… I don’t think the refs were bought and I truly believe that the ref didn’t see the play but obviously France is a much bigger soccer market and the world cup would not be the same without them… nough said…

 Should the game be replayed?

Well Fifa already answered that question by denying Ireland request for a rematch but again like I said, France is a much bigger market, back in 05 Brazil’s soccer league replayed 11 games due to finding out that many of their referees were paid to call games. So replaying a soccer game is something that has been done previously but Fifa definitely wants France in the World cup therefore refusing to have a rematch…

Is Thierry Henri a cheater?

Some may call his move cheating and dishonest but I call it genius, it’s a win win situation for him. You see, had he not made that move they would have loss the game and by doing so he had a chance to win, they did so who are we to say he’s a cheater that’s why we have refs. In sports I always say if the ref doesn’t call it, it’s not a foul plus after the game he said he was sorry for what had happened and would gladly replay the game if Fifa see’s fit, not to mention his marvelous acting skillz were he totally acted like the play never happened…

That’s my point… thanks for asking!

What’s yours…

The Soccer Impact in Montreal…

Even though our parks are field and occupied with soccer player here in Montreal, it just doesn’t seam like the Montreal Impact (professional Soccer club in the USL) get their dues nor the fan support like other professional sport teams in Montreal. I’m sure that many of you don’t even know that this team will be participating in their league’s finals. They kick off a home and away games against the Vancouver Whitecaps this Saturday. I must admit that I’m not a huge soccer fan but by listening to sports radio practically everyday, I’ve secretly followed the Impact throughout the year. This Year it has been probably one of their toughest years to overcome, yet they find themselves in the grand finally. They’ve recorded 12 win – 1 loss in the last 13 games and are looking to continue that streak with 2 left to win the whole shabang. Although everything looks all peachy and dandy now, they started of the year much like The Canadiens have, Many injuries, a lot of new face, A new coach (who took over mid way threw the season) Lost many game, had no offence and looked like they were headed nowhere. The impact Rallied and like I said previously, won 12 out of 13 games to squeeze in the playoffs  making a few upsets along their way to the finals.

I wish them good luck and to keep up the good work. We may see them playing in the MLS soon enough…

Nike The Game is Never Over.

Nike Sportswear teams up with soccer sensation Patrice Evra and Pixel artist Yassine (Lezilus) to make a wicked retro-gaming TV. commercial. Take a look you won’t be disappointed! This video is rightfully called “The Game is Never Over”.

*Sidebar: Seriously though, Nike really inspired me! They’re always on point, constantly renewing themselves and all while staying true to who they are. Incredibly, Nike is practically the front runner in every sport imaginable without leaving anything left for the other players.  Some people hate on them just because they’re an enormous corporation, but what people don’t realize is that to get to that point you have to be the best, study, analyse and impress. Those who frown on Nike only do so because in reality they want to be like Mike I mean Nike.
